Join Our Flock: Volunteer With Us!
At The Georgia Aviary, our volunteers are the heart of our mission. Every day, dedicated animal lovers help us provide a safe, enriching, and loving environment for the abandoned and surrendered parrots in our care. As one of only four parrot rescues in Georgia, we offer a rare opportunity to work with a variety of parrots. Whether you are an experienced bird owner or new to the world of parrots, there is a place for you on our team!

Why Volunteer?
Parrots are intelligent, social, and complex creatures. Volunteering with us is a unique opportunity to:
- Make a Real Impact: Directly improve the daily lives of rescued, surrendered, and displaced birds. Volunteering supports your well-being, keeps you active, builds valuable skills, and strengthens your résumé.
- Learn Avian Care: Gain hands-on experience in parrot behavior, nutrition, enrichment, and positive reinforcement training.
- Join a Community: Connect with fellow bird enthusiasts and advocates who share your passion.
- Earn Unforgettable Trust: Experience the rewarding feeling of earning the trust of a rescue bird.
- Opportunity to Earn Community Service Hours
Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities
Our daily shifts involve a mix of hard work, learning, and fun. Typical volunteer tasks include:
- Daily Habitat Care & Sanitation: Changing cage liners, scrubbing perches, cleaning play stands, and maintaining a hygienic environment.
- Diet Prep & Feeding: Chopping fresh vegetables, fruits, and greens ("chop"), and serving meals that consist of specialized pellets, specifically for parrots.
- Socialization & Enrichment: Crafting wood and foraging toys, spending one-on-one time with the birds, reading to them and assisting with basic positive-reinforcement training.
- Facility Maintenance: Sweeping, organizing supplies, and keeping our center, located in Marietta, running smoothly.
We also have non-hands-on roles available for help with educational events, fundraising, event planning, social media, and administrative work!
What We Look For
- Age Requirement: Must be 18 or older (or 15+ accompanied by an adult or signed waiver and permission form).
- Commitment: We ask for a minimum commitment of 4 hours a week for at least 3 months to help our birds build stable routines.
- Attitude: A willingness to learn, patience, and comfort working around noise, feathers, dander and mess!
