Our Sanctuary Vision: A Look Back at the 2024 Plan

Originally published February 23, 2024. Revised October 23, 2026.

In 2024, we shared a vision for a purpose-built parrot sanctuary in North Georgia. The goal was to create an environment designed around the needs of rescued parrots while making room for education and community involvement.

This article preserves that vision. It describes proposed facilities and goals, not a completed sanctuary or an announcement of public visiting hours.

A place designed around parrots

The vision centers on spaces where parrots can move, explore, forage and, where appropriate, fly safely. It includes opportunities for compatible birds to socialize, alongside spaces that respect individual birds’ needs for rest and separation.

Appropriate housing, access to veterinary care and practical spaces for daily care are part of that goal. Each bird’s health, behavior and history would need to inform how its environment is used.

Education alongside care

We also envisioned space for educational programs and community learning. Helping people understand the responsibilities of parrot care is part of The Georgia Aviary’s mission, alongside rescue, rehabilitation and lifelong care.

Understanding the plan

The ideas in this article should be read as a record of our sanctuary ambitions, not a confirmation of a site, final design, construction schedule or opening date. For an overview of the organization and its work, visit About The Georgia Aviary.
